Missionnaire, il a étudié l'arabe en Syrie et au Liban. A vécu vingt ans en Egypte où il a approfondi le dialogue avec l'islam. Complète entre-temps une licence en Science ecclésiastique orientale auprès du Pontificio Istituto Orientale de Rome. Enseigne pendant neuf ans la liturgie orientale à l'Institut de théologie du Caire. En 1990 il vient à Khartoum, à l'Institut catholique pour l'enseignement de la religion. En 2000, obtient un doctorat auprès du Pontificio Istituto Orientale. La même année il retourne au Caire, où il dirige le Centre pour l'enseignement de l'arabe. Auteur de nombreux ouvrages à caractère historique théologique et pastoral, en langue arabe.
