Robert Sargent Shriver, Jr. (born November 9, 1915 in Westminster, Maryland) is an American politician, Shriver was U.S. ambassador to France from 1968 to 1970, main organizer and first director of the Peace Corps.

Robert Sargent Shriver Jr. (/ˈsɑːrdʒənt ˈʃraɪvər/; November 9, 1915 – January 18, 2011) was an American diplomat, politician and activist. As the husband of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, he was part of the Kennedy family. Shriver was the driving force behind the creation of the Peace Corps, and founded the Job Corps, Head Start, and other programs as the "architect" of the 1960s "War on Poverty.
