Note sur la biographie et les activités : The Museum of V.A. Tropinin and Contemporary Moscow Artists was established in 1969
by a well-known Moscow collector, Maecenas of the XXth century, Felix Yevgenyevich
Vishnevsky who had donated about 300 works of painting, graphic, decorative and applied
art to the city of Moscow. Among the donations of Vishnevsky there were pieces of
art by I.Ya.Vishnyakov, A.P.Antropov, I.P.Argunov, F.S.Rokotov, V.L.Borovikovsky,
D.G.Levitsky, O.A.Kiprensky, a considerable collection of works by V.A. Tropinin,
a favourite Moscow portrait painter, a collection of portraits in water-colours including
works by P.F. Sokolov, A.P. Bryullov, V.I. Hau and others. For about forty years of
its existence the museum has increased its collection almost ten times more. The museum
is a unique repository of Moscow artistic culture of XVIIIth-XIXth centuries, its
exposition is devoted to the history of the Russian portrait, painting, graphics,
decorative and applied art of that period
