Note publique d'information : L’objet de cette thèse est l’étude des oeuvres sculptées produites entre le ive et
le milieu du VIIIe siècle. Dans les départements de l’Aude, du Gard, de l’Hérault
et des Pyrénées-Orientales. La première partie les replace dans le cadre territorial,
historique et culturel de la Narbonnaise première, puis de la Septimanie Wisigothique.
La seconde est consacrée a l’historiographie et a l’analyse des oeuvres fondée sur
les sources et l’histoire des collections modernes, et les situe dans leur environnement
en insistant sur leur fonction t leur rôle dans le monument. La troisième traite des
modes de production et de diffusion, en prenant en compte l’examen, l’origine des
matériaux et leur exploitation dans l’antiquité tardive. La quatrième partie est une
étude morphologique, iconographique, chronologique de plus de 300 oeuvres regroupées
par type dans le catalogue : éléments architectoniques et décoratifs, mobilier liturgique
et monuments funéraires. Elle met en exergue les particularités régionales et les
rapports avec la création contemporaine en aquitaine et en Méditerranée, plus particulièrement
celle de Provence, d’Italie et de la Péninsule Ibérique.
Note publique d'information : The purpose of this thesis is the study of sculptural works produced between the 4th
and mid. 8th centuries in the departements of the Aude, the Gard, the Hérault and
the Pyrénées-Orientales. The first part looks at them in the territorial and historical
context of the narbonnaise premiere, then the Septimanie Visigotique. The second concerns
the historiography and the analysis of works based on the sources and the history
of modern collections, and puts them in their environment, stressing their function
and role in the building. The third deals with methods of production and their spread
taking into account in this examination the origin of the materials and their usage
in late antiquity. The fourth part is a morphological, iconographical, chronological
study of more than 300 works regrouped by type in the catalogue : architectural and
decorative elements, liturgical furniture and funerary monuments. It highlights regional
particularities and connections with contemporary products in aquitaine and the Mediterranean
area, most particularly those of Provence, Italy and the Iberian Peninsula.
