Note publique d'information :

Note publique d'information :
The decreasing number of UID is related to the identification of risk factors, including the ventral sleeping, and preventive actions. The Child Health Booklet, a communication tool between physicians and parents, gives the parents different pieces of advice concerning sleeping and child's bedding. The questions were: Do they read those recommendations and put them into practice? Was it possible to find elsewhere any other significant information concerning risks and prevention of UID? 150 mothers of newborn babies of CHSF Maternity department have been called, out of which 107 were finally selected. When the recommendations displayed in the Child Health Booklet had been read or when the mothers had been directly informed, the supine position was adopted. The recommendation reading as well as the new born baby's sleeping environment quality were not linked neither to professional position or to the mother's age. Apart from the Child Health Booklet, the greatest part of Health recommendations had been given by the Mid Wives, more than by the doctors. We have also indicated that non advisable practices still exist such as: One third of the babies didn’t sleep in the supine position, 20% of newborn babies were bed sharing with their parents, 40% were exposed to cigarette smoking after birth. Compared to recent data, these conclusions are in accordance with them partially. For a better prevention in UID, several methods can be taken into consideration: Physicians' training to enhance their message, creation of written supports, amendment of the Child Health Booklet, poster campaign in several languages to modify preconceived ideas and internet used as a communication tool.
