Note publique d'information : Introduction: La démographie prédit un nombre croissant d’âgés dépendants atteints
Discussion: Les résultats sont en accord
Note publique d'information : Introduction: Demographics predict a growing number of dependent elderly people with
TNCM, and therefore family caregivers. Their role is beginning to be recognized and
the subject of work exploring the "burden" placed on them. Material and methods: Qualitative
survey by semi-structured interviews with caregivers of peo-ple with TNCM in order
to collect their difficulties, their feelings and the place of the general practitioner
in the care of these patients and their caregivers. Results: Caregivers suffer from
a lack of preparation for the role of caregiver and a lack of aware-ness of the disease.
The caregiver's workload generates a significant burden, resulting in de-graded relationships
with their loved one and precariousness. The contribution of the general practitioner,
although insufficiently included, is recognized. Discussion: The results are in agreement
with those of the literature. The new contributions highlight a difficulty in anticipating
difficulties according to the course of the disease, the inabil-ity to step out of
the role of caregiver, the importance of the grieving process for the loved one before
their illness. The role of the general practitioner is essential when he takes charge
of the two members of the helping / helping pair, via information, the setting up
of formal and rest aids for the caregiver, coordination, active listening. and positive
reinforcement. Conclusion: Primary caregivers encounter multiple difficulties and
the attending physician plays an important role in helping to cope. Other work should
focus on assessing the difficulties spe-cific to general practitioners in this support
and training, but also recognition for this mission.
