Note publique d'information : Dans notre etude, nous avonse cherche a demontrer les liens entre la cite et le camp
legionnaire. Dans une premiere partie, nous nous sommes attaches a l'etude des conditions
de la naissance de la cite. Nee d'imperatifs militaires, la cite favorisa la sedentarisation
des nomades et une agglomeration civile se justaposa au camp. La presence militaire
favorisa la romanisation de la vie sociale a lambese. La romanisation se materialisa
par la construction d'edifices "classiques" des cites romaines (forum, arcs, amphitheatres,
thermes, aqueducs, routes) et par l'adoption des institutions municipales romaines.
La romanisation fut inegale selon les milieux et lambese fut geree par les notables.
On retouve a lambese, les trois etapes de l'evolution religieuse de l'empire. Les
religions indigenes persisterent tout en laissant s'implanter et se developper les
cultes romains. Puis nous assistons a l'essor des cultes etrangers. L'existence de
lambese est liee a la place que les empereurs lui ont attribuee dans la defense de
l'empire. On s'explique ainsi, sa naissance en 81, son essor du ier au iiie siecle
et son declin lors de la dissolution de la troisieme legion auguste avec la "gran,de
crise" de 238.
Note publique d'information : In our study, we have tried to emphasize the links existing between the city and the
legionary camp. First, we have been devoting to the study of the conditions of th
city bitth. Born from military needs, the city favoured the settling of nomades and
a civil builtup area was added to the camp. The presence of an army favoured the romanization
of socail life. This romaniza tion was materialized by the building of classic edifices
typical of roman cities (form-archways-amphitheatres-thermae-aqueducts-roads) and
by the adoption of the roman city institutions. The degrees of romanization varied
according to the social bacvkgrounds and bambaesis was mainly ruled by influent persons.
We may find there, the three steps of the religious evolution of the empire. The local
religious remained, but the roman worships settled and developed in the meantime.
Then, we attended the rise of foreign worskips. The very existence of lambaesis is
linked with the importance the emperors gave it in the empire defence. So, may be
xeplained, its birth in 81, its growing form the irt to the iiird century and its
decline together with the disbandement of the tertia augusta with the "big crisis"
of 238.
